Infrequent Update

Not much to say, other than I think I'm going to play poker for entertainment purposes.

Also, I added a new link to my buddy Dan's hosting site. He'll give you good rates. Just tell him Wes sent ya :)

Observations in Poker

I've noticed a number of things that can help avoid hostility. Here's a list of them:

1. Avoid commenting on hands when out of the hand yourself

People can see something as innocent as a 'nice hand' comment into something insulting and condescending. Try to avoid making comments *at least* when out of the hand.

2. Be polite

Nothing infuriates people worse than being an ignorant mouthbreather who says things like "nh fish" or "ship it, donkey." This goes double for when you win. The only thing worse than a sore loser is a sore winner. Comments like "thanks" or "BOOM!" can easily make you look like some daft punk.

3. Try to stay positive

Another big observation is that people get down on themselves if they lose a big hand, or especially when they get outdrawn. Poker is a game of imperfect information, and it is part luck,
so when you get outdrawn, just repeat to yourself that it wasn't your fault, and that you made the right play, but lost anyway. Such is the cruel nature of poker. All you can do is minimize luck, rather than eliminate it entirely.

4. (Online Poker) Turn off observer/player chat

Here is a huge tip for avoiding idiocy and big mouths online - turn off chat. That way, you don't hear the blathering idiocy of those in the tournament. Poker seems to draw out the most egotistical and arrogant players of any sport, outside of the "big four" (basketball, baseball, football, and hockey), and these bastards can get to anyone. Just shut them the hell up by making sure you can't see what these mouthbreathers are saying.

Just a sample of the morons you can encounter:
-people who table coach
-people who are constantly talking or flooding chat with comments like ddddddddddddd or p
p
p
p
p
p
-people who parrot everything the dealer says, or anything players say.

I've found it really helped me by shutting off chat for good. That way, I can focus on the poker at hand, and not the degenerate retards who are screaming at me for slowplaying a hand. Unfortunately, this doesn't work in live poker, and you can be subjected to any number of scumbags. In this case, I would just ask the dealer to contact the floor manager.

I'll probably add more of these as I continue onwards. Thanks for reading.

Return from the Dead

Woo. Back in it.

Well, going to have to grind for a good while. My roll is just at two figures, so it's basically microstakes for now. Wish me luck, and I should be going stronger soon.

I did win a 90-man SNG on FTP a few days ago, and got 9th/6th in other SNGs, so that helps boost the roll a bit. It should be fun. Take care.

The pain of it all - school begins

It began on Sept 12, and it won't end until April 29th 2007. I wouldn't be so upset, but the retarded school is missing 3 of my needed textbooks. I can't believe people pay so much money to go to such a pathetic institution such as UTM.

Die in a fire.

Why do I play at PokerStars?

You've heard this rant before, but I honestly wonder if I wasn't destined to win anything on that site.

Triple Shootout - $2.20 entry fee - Top 2 get an entry into Sunday Million
Blinds 100-200 HU
Me BB(3900): Q-10
Dude SB (5100): 9-9

Me: Raise to 400
Dude: Calls

Flop: A-Q-8
Me (after long pause): Raise to 1200
Dude: Calls all-in
Me (after pause): Calls
Dude flips over 9-9
Me: Shows Q-10
Turn: 6
River: 9

Why bother playing when you make a great read on a guy, and lose anyway to a 2-outer?
RiverStars strikes again. Terrible. This is a guy who went all in earlier with pocket 3s with a board of A-K-10 to an idiot who had A-2 and then gets his 3 on the river again...fucking idiots can't play poker. I wish I could afford the larger games, where retardation seems less likely to occur. Fuck.

Long awaited (and ignored) update

I won $25 over the course of 2 days in freeroll grinding. I came 2nd for $20 in a small $100 prize pool tourney, and $5 for coming in 10th at another tourney the day later.

This brings the br just around $442 cdn. I might be able to make the 500 mark before years end I hope :)

It sucks since one of my big freeroll sources no longer has the weekend 200 euro freerolls I lurve so much.

Wish me luck in this perpetual grind until I croak :\ Thanks for reading

Mini Grind - Finale

Well I cleared it, and this time was money up. $19.22 from $15 instead of $83 from $100. Woo!

Mini Grind - The Sequel

Although not as daunting as the first grind, I'm facing another small bonus to grind out at Party. If I get 150 raked hands, I can clear $15. Not bad. A bit of tournament money for sure :)
